Tesla will launch the consumer version as part of its range of electric cars in 2023. This is what Autocar writes. According to the website, the ticket price would not exceed $ 25,000. The compact hatchback is expected to compete with the Volkswagen ID.3, Nissan LEAF and Kia Niro EV.

Electric carmaker Tesla has been around for thirteen years, and Elon Musk's business recently had the most successful quarter of its existence. Tesla wants to remain the leader in the electric car segment and therefore feels compelled to include a smaller and cheaper electric car in its range. According to Autocar, the time will come in 2023. Enthusiasts will be able to buy an affordable Tesla hatchback. Cost: less than $ 25,000 in the United States, which, by analogy with other Tesla models, would be more or less the same for Europe, but in euros. In this category, the new Tesla will face competitors such as the Volkswagen ID.3, the Nissan LEAF and the Kia Niro EV.

For now, the Model 3 remains the entry-level Tesla, one of the best-selling electric cars in Europe. Tesla wants to build on this success with the new model. Priced at no more than $ 25,000, the hatchback will be by far the cheapest Tesla model. The Tesla Model 3 costs at least $ 56,990.

In order to keep the price so low, Tesla has developed a new battery technology. The batteries would be 35% smaller, produce five times more power, and cost half at the same time. Regarding range, Elon Musk has said in the past that if it were less than 400km it would not meet Tesla standards and would be "unacceptably low."

The new model could be called the Model 2. The European version would be built, along with the Model 3 and Model Y, in the new German factory near Berlin. This "Gigafactory" should be operational, after some delays, in early 2022. At cruising speed, the capacity would be 500,000 cars per year.
