It reaches 96 km / h in just two seconds. That's the promise of the new Tesla Model S Plaid that Elon Musk unveiled Thursday night in Fremont, California. The new Model S, which is an electric model, has a power of 1,020 horsepower, a range of more than 625 kilometers and a minimum price of $ 131,100 in the United States.

The four-door Tesla Model S Plaid received some aerodynamic changes and is equipped with three electric motors: two in the rear and one in the front. Enough to allow the car to reach 60 mph (about 96 km / h) in 1.99 seconds. In the quarter mile - from 0 to 402 meters, in American measure - this Tesla makes 9.2 seconds and reaches a speed of just under 250 km / hour. By comparison, the McLaren 765LT does it in 9.9 seconds.

Ultimately, Elon Musk is hopeful that his model will reach the promised top speed of 320 km / hour. To do this, the car will first have to be "equipped with the right wheels and the right tires," as Elon Musk points out. These should arrive in the fall.

The Model S Plaid has a range of about 625 kilometers, but only with 19-inch tires. If you go for the 21-inch options, the price of the car goes up to almost $ 3,700 in the US, and the range also drops to just over 560 kilometers.

A few days ago, Elon Musk announced that Tesla would cancel production of the Model S Plaid +. This version should have a range of more than 840 kilometers and a power of more than 1,100 hp. Starting price: 123,000 euros. Finally, the CEO of Tesla tweeted last weekend that this version was "useless" because the "normal" Plaid was already "enough".

Full option

In the rear, passengers have slightly more room than the Model S, plus an 8-inch screen that offers games to keep busy on long trips.

Standard equipment includes a glass roof, 3-zone air conditioning, an audio system with 22 speakers, heated seats for all and ventilation for the front seats. Autonomous driving is optional, at $ 9,900. A fully equipped Plaid costs almost $ 145,000.
